Is silver safe to use on my skin? Is the silver safe for my children?

Silver has been used for centuries to prevent and treat diseases & infection. Silver coins were used in ancient Greece & Rome and by US western settlers as a disinfectant for the storage of water and other liquids. The NASA space shuttle's water system uses tanks that are coated with silver.
